To all members of the St Mary’s School Community

Conversion to Academy Status as part of St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust

The Governing Body of St Mary’s Catholic Primary School has been invited by Bishop Patrick to begin the process of conversion to an academy as part of St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust in the Diocese of Nottingham.

St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust will be formed on 1 September 2018 and will bring together twenty five Catholic schools and academies in the Diocese of Nottingham located in Derbyshire, Derby City, Staffordshire and Stockport into a single Catholic Multi Academy Trust.

As part of this process we are required firstly to consult with and inform staff, parents, students, our parishes and wider communities of our intention to convert so that everyone who wishes to has an opportunity to comment on and learn more about what this will mean for our school and Catholic Education in our Diocese.  If you would like to comment on our proposals or ask any questions then please do so by emailing  and include our school name and town in the subject line of your email.

We are sending out this statement today to our community and a copy will be posted on our school website for the duration of the conversion process together with a link to a Frequently Asked Questions document which will be regularly updated and will address many of the queries relating to converting to an academy.

Our statutory consultation period is from 30 October 2017 – 30 November 2017.

Signed:  Dr N O’Brien, Chair of Governors
